A show that follows the life of Sarla Arora, a Punjabi mother who runs a wedding hall and lives with the hope of seeing her two very different daughters, Pragya and Bulbul, happily married one day. Pragya, the eldest daughter, is practical, hardworking, and committed to supporting her family; despite having recently completed her education, she teaches at a college to ensure that the income from the ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ wedding hall remains sufficient. Amidst this pressure, she forgets how to relax or pursue her personal passions. Bulbul, the younger sister, is full of imagination and dreams. She is cheerful, smart, stylish, and a true dreamer who often gets lost in her own colorful world. She is barely aware of how to handle the real world and help her family.
The show also follows the story of Abhi (Shabir Ahluwalia), a rockstar with a loyal fanbase, and Suresh (Martin Kuhl), a college professor who works alongside Pragya. After living a harsh life in the military and losing many loved ones, Abhi has become a hard-hearted individual filled with many disappointments and frustrations toward life… a scandal that could destroy the family.
